Denon and Marantz already have comprehensive abilities to turn blah-sounding rooms into audio showcases, with their implementations of Audyssey's suite of processing capabilities. Adding to this is the Audyssey MultEQ Editor App ($20 from the Apple or Android stores), allowing the further tweaking of problematic situations in the room. After all, we know that microphones supplied with these receivers are pretty good at what they do, but we also know that trained, experienced ears pick on things. By using the app judiciously to tame problematic boominess or provide a little tweak to improve dialogue intelligibility, the App can let you be in charge of what you hear.

The App works by letting users examine the results of the room calibration when it's completed. From there, you can edit each channel pair, including the center and sub (most important since most room problems occur below 300Hz). This feature is especially useful, since it's well known that proper speaker placement (especially subwoofers) does not always work with room aesthetics or traffic patterns. Although any EQ will not be a replacement for proper placement, the App combined with the processing provides a distinct advantage over systems that do not have this capability (word of caution: Extending a ported subwoofer's response below the tuning frequency at too high a boost level can damage the driver. All EQ's are best used as limiters to tame problems, not to boost excessively.)

Once the target curves are edited, they can be sent to the AVR.

The Audyssey MultEQ App is compatible with nearly all 2017/2018 Denon and Marantz receivers. It truly adds that last bit of polish to what is already a huge problem solver in any room. For any further questions, give us a call at River City Sales!
